People ask us this often enough that it's worth answering plainly. Why does William Greenberg Desserts only offer FedEx 2nd Day Air or Standard Overnight, and never a slower, cheaper ground option?
It starts with what's not in the box
Everything we bake goes out with no preservatives. Real butter, fresh eggs, real vanilla, European chocolate, and nothing added to make it last longer on a truck than it would in your kitchen. That's a deliberate choice, and it's also exactly why we can't ship the way a mass-produced bakery does. A cookie built to survive a week in transit is usually a cookie built with something in it to help it survive a week in transit.
What the schedule actually looks like
Orders ship Monday through Friday only, with no weekend shipping, so everything you receive was baked with that window in mind. An order shipped on a Thursday will arrive the following Monday. It's a tighter schedule than most bakeries bother with, but it's the schedule that lets us keep preservatives out of the recipe in the first place.
The tradeoff, and why we make it anyway
Two day and overnight shipping costs more than standard ground, and we know it. Shipping runs on two flat rates based on your order total, not on distance, so the cost is predictable no matter where it's headed. Rather than pass the full difference on to you, we underwrite part of that cost ourselves in some cases, because we feel strongly enough about what's in the box to make the faster option the easier one to choose. It's the same standard that's been behind everything in the case since 1946, just applied to what happens after it leaves the building.
FAQ
Why does William Greenberg Desserts only offer 2nd Day Air or Overnight shipping?
Because nothing we bake contains preservatives. A faster shipping window is what lets the product arrive the way it left the kitchen, rather than relying on ingredients built to survive a longer trip.
Is standard ground shipping ever available?
No. FedEx 2nd Day Air and Standard Overnight are the only options, to keep transit time short.
Why is there no weekend shipping?
Orders only ship Monday through Friday, so nothing sits in transit over a weekend with no one tracking it.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping runs on two flat rates based on your order total, so you know the cost upfront rather than seeing it change by distance.
Does William Greenberg Desserts help cover the cost of faster shipping?
In some cases, yes. We'd rather absorb part of that cost ourselves than make freshness something you have to pay extra to get.
