Master baker, Carol Becker didn't inherit her love of challah, she built it. Before she owned William Greenberg Desserts, she was baking loaves at home and giving them to friends, a habit that eventually led her to culinary school, her own baking business, and ultimately to the iconic Madison Avenue bakery she has run since 2008. Challah was where it all started.
Today, the challah at William Greenberg is sweeter than most, cake-like in its tenderness, and baked fresh using a recipe that has anchored Upper East Side tables for generations. Braided loaves are available weekly. As Rosh Hashanah approaches on September 11, we also offer round challah, shaped in the traditional spiral that symbolizes the cycle of the new year. Available in plain, whole wheat, and raisin, and ready for pickup at our Madison Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue locations or online for delivery. Order early for the holidays.
