On Wednesday, February 25, Carol Becker joins JCC Manhattan's "Books That Changed My Life" series to celebrate William Greenberg Desserts Bakes Vegan: Plant-Based Recipes from an Iconic New York Bakery, proving that innovation and tradition can beautifully coexist. When Carol took over William Greenberg Desserts fifteen years ago, she never imagined introducing plant-based recipes to the Upper East Side institution. But as customers requested more parve options for kosher meals and plant-based eaters sought their childhood favorites, she spent over a year developing 50 recipes that are every bit as delicious as their full-dairy and egg-based counterparts from Black & White cookies to apricot cheesecake to cinnamon rolls.
Moderated by Gabriella Gershenson, James Beard Award-winning food writer and editor at The New York Times Wirecutter, the conversation will explore Carol's philosophy: plant-based desserts should never feel like compromises. She'll share how she bridges traditional Jewish baking with contemporary dietary needs, the techniques behind her vegan masterpieces, and her role as steward of the bakery's legacy while ensuring its continued evolution. Books will be available for signing, and refreshments will be served.
The event runs from 7:00 to 8:15 PM at Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street. Secure your tickets now for an evening celebrating flavor without compromise. You can purchase a ticket here.
