We are proud to share that Carol Becker, owner of William Greenberg Desserts, has been named one of Total Food Service’s 25 Top Women in Foodservice & Hospitality for 2026.
Since acquiring William Greenberg Desserts in 2008, Carol has helped guide one of New York’s most beloved bakeries into its next chapter, preserving the recipes, standards, and character that have defined it for generations, while also knowing exactly where thoughtful evolution belongs. Total Food Service recognized her for doing exactly that: honoring the bakery’s heritage while helping it grow in ways that feel both smart and true to its roots.
Under Carol’s leadership, William Greenberg Desserts has expanded into a thriving nationwide mail-order business, introduced thoughtful innovations including custom-colored Black & White Cookies, and opened a second Upper West Side location in 2022, all while remaining unmistakably William Greenberg. The bakery still feels like the institution New Yorkers have loved for decades. It is simply being carried forward with the attention it deserves.
Carol’s recognition also reflects something beyond business growth. It speaks to a way of leading that values tradition, quality, and community in equal measure. In addition to her work at the bakery, Total Food Service noted her long-standing civic and philanthropic leadership, including service with UJA-Federation of New York, American Friends of Magen David Adom, JCC Krakow, and Syracuse University’s Maxwell School.
Many customers know Carol through the bakery itself. Others may know her through her books, including The William Greenberg Desserts Cookbook and William Greenberg Desserts Bakes Vegan, both of which reflect the same point of view she has brought to the business: respect the classics, keep the standard high, and make room for thoughtful new ideas when they genuinely improve the offering.
